Peaks of Wonder: An Adventurous Journey to Glittertind. Planning phase.

I find myself once again immersed in the excitement of planning another adventurous journey to Glittertinden. The majestic peaks of this Norwegian treasure beckon me, and I can’t help but contemplate whether to embark on this expedition solo or find a suitable companion. While a solo trip doesn’t faze me, it’s always nice to have someone to share the experience with.

Glittertinden resides not too far from Norway’s highest mountain, Galdhøpiggen, which my mountain partner and I conquered last year in 2022. The climb was nothing short of breathtaking and left an indelible mark on our memories. We’ll always recall the sheer difficulty we faced during that ascent. With that in mind, my plan for Glittertinden mimics last year’s approach. I intend to establish Spiterstulen as my base camp and commence my journey from there.

According to various online guides, the round trip to Glittertinden is estimated to take around nine hours, covering a distance of approximately 16-19 kilometers. Most of these guides also emphasize that the trail to Glittertinden presents a formidable challenge. I can’t help but wonder if it will match the level of difficulty we encountered on Galdhøpiggen or perhaps exceed it.

Another thought that has crossed my mind is the possibility of spending a night on the mountain during my return journey. However, I am torn because I also desire to keep my backpack as light as possible on this trail. It’s a decision I’ll have to ponder further as the trip draws nearer.

As for timing, I’m contemplating either the first or second week of August. Last year, we climbed Galdhøpiggen at the end of July and were blessed with perfect weather. Therefore, I’m hopeful that choosing a similar timeframe will grant me the opportunity to relish the breathtaking views from the summit of Glittertinden.

As usual, a few weeks before the trip, I’ll begin monitoring the weather forecast for the area. Presently, in early July, the weather predictions for the middle of the month are not promising. They indicate a lot of rain and snow, with temperatures hovering around -3 degrees Celsius. Undoubtedly, these conditions would hinder my ability to enjoy the awe-inspiring vista from Glittertinden’s peak. I eagerly await the more precise weather forecasts that will become available in the latter half of July.

Until then, I shall continue my preparations with a mixture of anticipation and eagerness. The allure of the mountains is irresistible, and I eagerly await the day when I’ll once again venture into their magnificent realm.
